Saladino Style

Living room by John Saladino

Always comfortable, sometimes minimalist, and typically enhanced with unexpected colors like lavender and apricot, John Saladino has such intriguing style.

With interiors so classic and elegant, he is certainly a designer to be admired..... and emulated.

Great room by McAlpine Booth & Ferrier

The folks over at McAlpine, Booth, & Ferrier certainly have a soft spot for Saladino-style interiors. Even Bobby McAlpine's upholstered pieces for Lee Industries (aka, McAlpine Home), such as paneled screens and high-back, knole-style sofas, give a nod to traditional Saladino design.

Miss Cummings also puts her own, slightly more feminine, spin on Saladino.

I love the ceiling-height, upholstered bench and how the pressed flower panels conveniently conceal a flat screen TV: grandeur combined with liveability.

Neutral, cozy, classic. Certainly rooms to live in.

Design by José Solís Betancourt

Note the scale of the various pieces in this room: from the visual weight of the wall hanging, lantern, and stone table down to the diminutive bench tucked underneath the coffee table.

Living room by Birmingham native Melanie Pounds

Melanie Pounds also has that Saladino touch. She actually worked for Circa Interiors here in Birmingham at one point, which has a definite McAlpine/Saladino vibe.

Isn't this room just fabulous? Pounds says that she likes to live with things that are "quietly beautiful", and this room well illustrates that idea: so serene and warm.

Whether real Saladino or Saladino in spirit, these designs are sure to last a lifetime.

Orange Crush

Design by Gil Schafer

Orange has become one of my all-time favorite colors. Without conscious intention, this cheerful hue slowly permeated my home in the form of pillows, throws, urns, and mats around favorite pictures. Before I knew it, orange was the color I was turning to to brighten up every corner of my home!

Vignette by Suzanne Kasler

Apparently these designers feel the same way, as they have brought orange to a bevy of their own design projects. Suzanne Kasler seems to especially favor the color, using it as an accent in many of her elegant spaces.

Whether used as an all-over wallcolor or just in touches throughout a room, I think this color brings a cheerfully modern warmth to any space.

I love the apricot undertones of the happy wallcolor above.

Here, citrusy pops of color from the accessories brighten up the grays and blues of this cushy seating area.

Tom Scheerer chooses a bold red-orange shade for this foyer....

Whether used in spaces that are metro-modern or tastefully traditional, this color is at home anywhere!

I always like to end with a photo that, for one reason or another, stands out to me. I absolutely love the room below. You can just tell that a creative force lives here. There is something so bold and yet so comfortable about this space, making it one of my absolute favorite rooms.

Hello, all!

Well, it is official: as of late last night, Luster Interiors finally hit (and surpassed) the 10,000 pageviews mark!

This girl just wants to have fun!

Living room by Jenny Keenan

I was walking by my copy of "William Yeoward At Home" just now, and it reminded me that decorating is meant to be fun. It is not brain surgery; there will be no casualties from it. (Unless designer and client come to blows, I suppose?... Ha!)

So why not play with color, pattern, texture? Why not collect random things, just because they speak to you - whether high end or low brow?

Bedroom by Amelia Handegan

I think, in these times when so many people are burdened with hardships, it is good to remember all the wonderful things with which we are blessed (whether it be family, friends, a roof over our heads, or the pretty decorations we pour over).

So, as you and I look at these colorful spaces, we must remember to be confident in ourselves, be brave, and - most of all - have fun!

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Speechless...

Living room by Amelia T. Handegan

The wall color, the painted screen, the velvet couches, the needlepoint stools, the curtains? I don't know what to say other than... "perfection"!
